One Network. One Catalog. One Hybrid Cloud.
VMware vCloud Connector makes hybrid cloud computing easy. Whether you need to connect multiple internal private clouds, or evolve to a hybrid cloud and connect to a public cloud, combing the best of both worlds, vCloud Connector delivers. Bring your existing applications, workloads and templates to a public cloud offered by VMware vCloud Service Providers, but retain the freedom to move these applications back into your own data center when needed. With vCloud Connector, customers can view, transfer and synchronize VMs, vApps, templates and associated content and configurations across VMware clouds.
Offline Data Transfer: Securely migrate the largest workloads with ease
Enabled by vCloud Connector 2.5 both Core and Advanced, the Offline Data Transfer Service allows users to transport the largest of workloads to the VMware vCloud Hybrid Service using a secure NAS device. Upon request, VMware will ship the device to your datacenter, your admins copy the relevant workloads to the device, and then overnight-ship it back to us. We take care of the import, and you end up with that workload in the your vCloud Hybrid Service environment. During transport the workload is securely encrypted, and upon import into the vCloud Hybrid Service the device is securely erased using industry compliant data destruction technology. Offline Data Transfer is charged on a per-use, per-device basis, with each device having a usable capacity of 12TB.
Shortest path to the Cloud, now faster than ever
The behind-the-scenes performance improvements made to vCloud Connecter 2.5 make it the fastest version yet. The newly implemented UDT ('UDP' Data Transfer) protocol delivers a marked performance improvement over TCP with a reduced overhead, shorting the transfer time significantly. The path that a transferring workload takes, has also been optimized, allowing single and multiple concurrent transfer to be faster and more efficient than ever before.
Advanced Features, Advanced Uses
Each vCloud Hybrid Service subscriber is provided entitlement for vCloud Connector Advanced, enabling the Data Center Extension and Content Synchronization features.
One Network: Data Center Extension
By using the Data Center Extension feature, also called ‘Stretch Deploy’, workloads keep their network configuration intact when migrated across clouds by automatically creating a Layer 2 SSL-VPN tunnel to tie the clouds together, transforming typical multi-tier applications into Hybrid Cloud applications.
One Catalog: Content Sync
You can now manage a single content catalog across your entire cloud environment using Content Sync. With Content Sync, a ‘source’ catalog is defined and all other ‘Synchronized’ catalogs will get any new templates added to the source. This facilitates greater collaboration by bringing remote locations ‘on the same page’ as the source. This also eases the management of multiple catalogs, increasing operational efficiency and deployment turn-around time. Content Sync is an advanced feature of vCloud Connector, available with the VMware vCloud Suites and the vCloud Hybrid Service.
One Hybrid Cloud
Easily attach compatible, scalable and compliant cloud resources to your private vSphere data center by using vCloud Connector and the vCloud Hybrid Service. Built upon VMware vSphere and vCloud APIs, vCloud Connector allows customers to connect VMware vSphere or VMware vCloud Director-based private and public clouds and manage them under a single interface, extending the logical boundaries of your data center.
